About us - We provide:

1.    English and Portuguese Language classes;

2.    Online and in person classes tailored specifically for women fleeing domestic violence, immigrant, and refugee women speakers of other languages. It also includes offering English classes for women fleeing domestic violence who speaks English as first language but need to improve their linguistic skills and enhance their English vocabulary. The methodology is based on communicative and grammatical approaches, project based, and methodology developed using recycled material to improve language acquisition;

3.    Alternative educational provision at mainstream schools to meet the needs of vulnerable pupils who are at risk of exclusion, or at risk of offending, offering up to 4 weeks placement aimed at teaching English, Maths, PSHE and Citizenship subjects. We accommodate those who are unable to stay at their current school; or are not allowed to attend school for a certain number of days; or are placed in isolation and segregated from the rest of the school day or classes;

4.    Apprenticeship to school leavers with good GCSE grades in Maths and English.

About Joana Grant

Professor Joana Grant holds a Masters Degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Brasilia; a postgraduate diploma in Criminal Justice from the University of Leicester in England; graduation in English and Portuguese language teaching, and respective literatures, from CEUB – Brazil. She also holds a DPSI diploma in public service translation and interpretation, with specialism in English and Portuguese law, from the London Institute of Linguists. She has recently been accepted in the MPhil/PhD selection process for the University of London, Department of Law, where she proposes to research the processes regarding to linguistics, the language teaching-learning, and English law. She has also teaching experience in Brazil and in England, alongside her career she has publications in the field of language teaching and has presented her master’s research in Japan, England, Portugal, and Bali. In the general context she believes that with the explosion of migratory flow, there is a need and is interested in mapping the identities and linguistic needs of people with immigrant and refugee status, based on the foundation offered by language concepts, access to education, access to culture, critical language awareness, and identity constructs. Moreover, academic movements and urgent needs to learn another language in the field of science and technology are one of the driving forces that motivates her to motivate her students not only to learn, but to acquire other languages than English. This is due to the fact that researches indicates that language teaching-learning processes based on the influences brought about by globalization, technology use, and intercultural communication skills are important for intellectual development.
